A.K.A. being used instead of I.E.

A.K.A. stands for, “Also known as…”
I.E. stands for the Latin, “id est” – meaning “that is…” / “that is to say…” / “in other words…”

THESE ARE NOT SYNONYMOUS!
This: I like to play cards – i.e., spades and poker.
NOT this: I like to play cards – a.k.a., spades and poker.

With i.e., you provide clarification. In the above example, spades and poker are some of the card cames I like to play.

With a.k.a., you provide pseudonyms for what you just said. In the above example, to “play cards” ONLY EVER MEANS playing spades and poker. THIS IS NOT TRUE!
